Smart TV / Kodi boxes
|
Thinking of getting one of these as I have fucked those cunts at Sky off.
Looking on ebay and it's a minefield. Anyone know what's a good make to get, how easy it is to upload whatever is you need to get free sports/movies etc? Mate of mine paid £150 but seems you can get some a lot cheaper. Anyone got one/ideas on reputable supplier? cheers

T8 AML V3s box.
All you need is wifi to get it going.

Agree. Would recommend a keyboard and not the remote, as an addon
I took out a Sportsnation subscription for £50, excellent quality.

Bill W 10:10 ~ Have a look down for the Kodi thread! I would recommend the MXIII box I got from www.droidsmart.co.uk Cost just under £50 (also they're on Ebay) Funny enough I've just ordered another one for my bedroom yesterday I got my 1st one in March 2016 & got another one for my sister & another one for a mate They all work fine I'd be a bit wary of some of the cheaper ones I'm not sure how much better the more expensive ones are but the MXIII works fine for me!

Amazon Fire TV (not stick) is great kit, plus if you buy regularly from them and get Amazon Prime, there is some good TV on there to boot.
Build quality is excellent too.

What Stubbo said. The Amazon box is going to 100 times more reliable than those crappy knock off boxes

If your smart TV is android you can down load stuff straight onto your TV ! I only learnt that from help on here :-)

The point of streaming is that you DON'T download anything ted.

Bill - before buying a box you should get to grips with Kodi. It's the same whether you are running it on Android, Linux (which most of the dedicated boxes are), Windows, Mac or even jailbroken iPhones.
https://kodi.tv/download/
I would suggest that you download the Windows version and then start installing the various addons - see the XBMC/Kodi thread for the latest recommended ones. It is going to be much easier to use a laptop/desktop keyboard and copying and pasting links from various websites than trying to use remotes and fiddly keyboards that you are not used to. When you're happy with how Kodi works and setting it up, then look at a suitable box for your needs.
I run Kodi off 3 Raspberry Pi in different rooms which each cost about £35 all in, although I will probably go for an Amazon Fire Box next as 4k content starts to become available. Whatever you do, make sure that whatever box you buy has an Ethernet port (which is all of the boxes) and not something like a Fire Stick which only has wifi.

I have heard the T8 AML box is good and I can testify that the Amazon Fire TV box (not stick) is amazing, I have two of them.
It is better because I have Netflix and Amazon Prime subs but you don't need these as it handles Kodi really, really well, I watch Kodi on it more than Netflix and Amazon Prime. I have one in my son's room connected but powerline adaptors and it's a top bit of kit, much better and faster hardware than the android box I had before.

Oh yes, get a keyboard (not the little one as it's pants, I had one of those cheap kidney shaped ones with rubber keys and it was dreadful), I have this one:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Wireless-Keyboard-QWERTY-Layout/dp/B00XJ3LVPI/ref=sr_1_14?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1478255260&sr=1-14&keywords=logitech+wireless+keyboard
It's more money but well worth it and I am sure there are other good ones too.
Plus pay Sportsnation the 50 notes, best 50 quid you will spend all year.

A good feature of Exodus is the ability to watch the trailers for the newer films that don't yet have a decent copy uploaded!
There are some excellent 1080p versions on exodus
Great for TV shows as well
As anybody ever gone onto the addons website and made a donation?

If you like retro gaming or your kids do then get a raspberry pii 3 , a couple of fake snes controllers from eBay and you can set up kodi and an arcade machine in one. If you have a Samsung tv your controller will work for kodi too
